Sundance is looking for a talented and enthusiastic Senior Merchant to join our team. Sundance is a leading omni-channel specialty retailer with headquarters located in Salt Lake City, UT. Founded in 1969 by Robert Redford, Sundance is a unique brand that supports artistic endeavors and focuses on creativity, originality, and inspiration.

Summary

The Senior Merchant is responsible for developing and executing the merchandising strategy to maximize sales and profitability. This role involves analyzing market trends, managing vendor relationships, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to enhance product offerings.  We are looking for someone who can help revitalize the Sundance brand with an ability to quickly follow the "3D" approach (Develop, Design, Deploy).  Experience with jewelry would be a plus for this particular position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Merchandising Strategy:  Develop and implement merchandising strategies aligned with Sundance goals and market trends.  Able to adapt to the company Brand in a changing retail environment.   

  • Product Selection:  Curate and manage product assortments based on customer preferences, sales data, and market research.   

  • Vendor Management:  Build and maintain strong relationships with vendors, negotiating terms and managing contracts to ensure favorable pricing and product availability. 

  • Sales Analysis:  Analyze sales performance and market trends to make data-driven decisions regarding inventory management and product assortment. 

  • Collaboration:  Work closely with marketing, sales, and supply chain teams to ensure cohesive product launches and promotions. 

  • Budget Management:  Oversee budgeting for product categories, ensuring profitability and efficient allocation of resources. 

  • Team Leadership:  Mentor and train junior team members, fostering a collaborative and results-oriented environment. 

  • Consumer Insights: Gather and analyze customer feedback and market intelligence to inform product development and merchandising strategies. 

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, or a related field; MBA preferred. 

  • Experience: 5+ years of experience in merchandising or related roles, with a focus on apparel, accessories and home goods.  

  • Analytical Skills: Strong analytical skills with proficiency in data analysis tools and software. 

  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present ideas clearly. 

  • Negotiation Skills: Proven ability to negotiate favorable terms with vendors and partners. 

  • Leadership: Experience in leading and developing teams.
